The History of Chicago Cubs Baseball at Wrigley Field

With the Major League Baseball (MLB) Season underway, the Chicago Cubs are ready to play ball! The Cubbies have been playing at Wrigley Field since 1914 (2nd oldest active MLB ballpark behind Fenway Park in Boston). Speaking of Wrigley Field, the venue hosted the 1990 All-Star Game along with the 2009 NHL Winter Classic (Blackhawks vs. Red Wings). The ballpark is about a 20-25 minute drive from Guaranteed Rate Field (home of the MLB’s White Sox). Wrigley Field is also about a 15-20 minute drive from the United Center (home of the NHL’s Blackhawks and NBA’s Bulls). The historic ballpark is even about a 20-25 minute drive from Soldier Field (home of the NFL’s Chicago Bears).

Since the Cubs moved to their current home in 1914, the team won a World Series championship in 2016 (their 1st since 1908). Chicago also played in four National League Championship Series since 2003. Wrigley Field saw eight no-hitters in its history, with the recent one thrown in 2015 by Phillies LHP Cole Hamels. 2015 turned out to be a special year for the Cubs as the team witnessed three major award winners: Joe Maddon (NL Manager of the Year), INF Kris Bryant (NL Rookie of the Year), and RHP Jake Arrieta (NL Cy Young). One year later, Bryant went on to win the NL MVP Trophy.
