The History of Atlanta Braves Baseball at Truist Park

With the Major League Baseball (MLB) Season underway, the Atlanta Braves are ready to play ball! The Braves have been playing at Truist Park since 2017. Speaking of Truist Park (formerly known as SunTrust Park), the venue is the newest National League stadium. The ballpark is located in the Cobb County suburb of Atlanta. In fact, Truist Park is about a 20-25 minute drive from Downtown Atlanta (home of the NBA’s Hawks, NFL’s Falcons, and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets). The Braves previously played at Turner Field (former site of the 1996 Summer Olympics) from 1997 until 2016.

Since the Braves moved to their current home in 2017, the team won the 2021 World Series vs. Astros. They also won four straight NL East Division titles (2018-2021). Atlanta has reached the National League Championship Series in 2020, but lost to the eventual World Series Champion Los Angeles Dodgers. Truist Park is one of the four active MLB venues that has not seen a no-hitter (Busch Stadium, Target Field, and New Yankee Stadium). OF Ronald Acuna Jr. won the NL Rookie of the Year in 2018, while 1B Freddie Freeman won the NL MVP in 2020. Brian Snitker went on to win the NL Manager of the Year in 2018.
