The History of Buffalo Bisons Baseball at Sahlen Field

With the Minor League Baseball Season (MiLB) underway, the Buffalo Bisons are ready to play ball! The Bisons are a Triple-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. In addition, they play in the Northeast Division for the International League starting in 2022. For 2021, they played in the same division for the Triple-A East League. The Bisons have been an affiliate for the Blue Jays since 2013.The Bisons have been playing their home games at Sahlen Field since 1998. Speaking of Sahlen Field, the 16,000-capacity ballpark is located in Downtown Buffalo.

The ballpark is also located just a couple blocks from KeyBank Center (home of the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres). Sahlen Field was used as the home of the Toronto Blue Jays during the 2020 season and some of the 2021 campaign due to Canada’s global health restrictions. Because of this, the Bisons played their home games in New Jersey for the 2021 season. Sahlen Field was formerly known as Coca-Cola® Field from 2009 until 2018. The Bisons’ venue hosted the Triple-A All-Star Game twice in its history: 1988 and 2012. The team’s official mascot is Buster T. Bison.
