The History of Houston Astros Baseball at Minute Maid Park

With the Major League Baseball (MLB) Season underway, the Houston Astros are ready to play ball! The Astros have been playing at Minute Maid Park since 2000. Speaking of Minute Maid Park, the venue hosted the 2004 MLB All-Star Game along with the Home Run Derby. The stadium is about a 3.0-hour drive from San Antonio (home of the NBA’s Spurs-2014 Champions). Minute Maid Park is also about a 3.0-hour drive from Austin (home of the Texas Longhorns). The Houston venue is even about a 4.0-hour drive from Arlington (home of the MLB’s Texas Rangers & NFL’s Dallas Cowboys).

Since the Astros moved to their current home in 2000, the team won a World Series Championship in 2017. In addition, Houston played in three Fall Classics (2005, 2017, 2019) along with six Championship Series appearances. Minute Maid Park is notable for its train located beyond left field. The stadium saw two no-hitters in its history: 2015 by Mike Fiers (vs. Dodgers) and 2019 by Houston combined no-no (vs. Mariners). 2B Jose Altuve won the AL MVP in 2017, while OF Yordan Alvarez won the AL Rookie of the Year in 2019. In addition, RHP Justin Verlander went on to win the 2019 AL Cy Young Award.
