The History of Memphis RedBirds Baseball at AutoZone Park

With the Minor League Baseball Season (MiLB) underway, the Memphis Redbirds are ready to play ball! The Redbirds are a Triple-A Team for the St. Louis Cardinals. In addition, they play in the Southeast Division for the International League starting in 2022. For 2021, Memphis played in the same division for the Triple-A East League. 2022 will be the club’s 24th season as an MiLB farm club for the Cardinals dating back to its inception in 1998. Memphis won the Triple-A Championship in 2018 and also played in the title game in 2009 and 2017. The Redbirds’ ballpark is about a 3-5 minute drive from FedEx Forum (home of the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies).

The Redbirds have been playing their home games at AutoZone Park since 2000 after spending the previous couple seasons at Tim McCarver Stadium. Speaking of AutoZone Park, the 10,000-capacity ballpark is located in Downtown Memphis not far from the Arkansas state line. According to Baseball America, the stadium won the Minor League Ballpark of the Year in 2009. The team’s official mascot is Rocky the Redbird. AutoZone Park has yet to see a no-hitter in its history. The RedBirds’ venue also hosted the 2003 Triple-A All-Star Game (1st such event in Tennessee since Nashville in 1994).
