The History of Miami Marlins Baseball at LoanDepot Park

With the Major League Baseball (MLB) Season underway, the Miami Marlins are ready to play ball! The Marlins have been playing at LoanDepot Park since 2012. Speaking of LoanDepot Park, the venue hosted the 2017 All-Star Game along with the World Baseball Classic that year. The ballpark is about a 10-15 minute drive from FTX Arena (home of the NBA’s Miami Heat). LoanDepot Park is also about a 1.0 hour drive drive from the Sunrise/Fort Lauderdale area (home of the NHL’s Florida Panthers). The baseball venue was previously known as Marlins Park from 2012 until 2021. LoanDepot Park sits on the former site of the Orange Bowl (which hosted Miami Hurricanes, Miami Dolphins & college bowl games).

Since the Marlins moved to their current home in 2012, the team made the postseason in 2020 as a wild card participant. The stadium is notable for The Bobblehead Museum located in the Home Plate concourse. LoanDepot Park used to have the following: the home run sculpture at center field, the Clevelander Swimming Pool area, and the fish tanks behind home plate. The baseball stadium saw two no-hitters in its history: 2013 by Henderson Alvarez (Marlins) and 2017 by Edinson Volquez (Marlins). RHP Jose Fernandez won the 2013 NL Rookie of the Year, while OF Giancarlo Stanton won the 2017 NL MVP Award.
