The History of Columbus Clippers Baseball at Huntington Park

With the Minor League Baseball Season (MiLB) underway, the Columbus Clippers are ready to play ball in the Buckeye State! The Clippers are a Triple-A Team affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians. In fact, they play in the Midwest Division for the International League starting in 2022. For 2021, Columbus played in the same division for the Triple-A East League. 2022 will be the Clippers’ 13th season as an MiLB affiliation club for Cleveland dating back to 2009.

The Clippers have been playing their home games at Huntington Park since 2009 after spending their first 31 years at the now-abandoned Cooper Stadium. Speaking of Huntington Park, the 10,000-capacity ballpark incorporates the feel of Downtown Columbus’ Arena District by having the ballpark built with bricks. The stadium also incorporates the flavor of MLB parks by installing the rooftop bleacher seats at the left field building called the AEP Power Pavilion. The rooftop seats are similar to the ones located beyond the outfield at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

Huntington Park is located less than one mile from Nationwide Arena, home of the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets. Their official mascots are Lou Seal (a seal) and Krash (a parrot). Huntington Park saw one no-hitter in its history: July 2014 by Clippers RHP Tyler Cloyd (vs. Louisville Bats).
