Full Story on Rick Carlisle Officially Out as Dallas Mavericks Head Coach
With Rick Carlisle gone, now is the time for the Dallas Mavericks to make a list of top candidates. In fact, the recognizable applicants could be qualified to become the team’s new head coach for the 2021-2022 Season. Carlisle stepped down as Dallas’ head coach after 13 seasons and a 555-478 record. The Mavericks were just knocked out of the first round by the Los Angeles Clippers in seven games. GM & President of Operations Donnie Nelson recently resigned from his position with Dallas.
The Mavericks became the 9th team to make a coaching change this season and the 6th team over the last couple weeks. For instance, the Celtics promoted Brad Stevens from the sidelines to President of Operations. Also, the Trail Blazers parted ways with Terry Stotts after nine seasons. Recently, the Orlando Magic announced that Steve Clifford would not return as head coach. Also, the Washington Wizards parted ways with Scott Brooks due to a contract dispute.
In addition, the Pacers dismissed Nate Bjorkgran and the Pelicans fired Stan Van Gundy after just one season (respectively). Earlier in the season, the Atlanta Hawks let go Lloyd Pierce earlier in the campaign. Also, the Minnesota Timberwolves fired Ryan Saunders as head coach.
Rick Carlisle’s Career with the Mavericks
Carlisle led the Mavericks to nine playoff appearances, including their first NBA championship in 2011. However, Dallas has not won a postseason series since the Mavs defeated LeBron James and the Miami Heat in six games.
Before coming to the Lone Star State in 2008, Carlisle was the head coach for the Detroit Pistons (2001-2003) and Indiana Pacers (2003-2007). He guided the Pistons and the Pacers to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2003 & 2004 (respectively). Carlisle was also remembered for being the Pacers coach in the infamous 2004 Malice at the Palace bench-clearing brawl vs. Pistons.
