Full Story on Rick Tocchet Being Fired as Arizona Coyotes Head Coach
With Rick Tocchet gone, now is the time for the Arizona Coyotes to make a list of top candidates. In fact, the recognizable applicants could be qualified to become the team’s new head coach for the 2021-2022 Season. Arizona will part ways with Tocchet as head coach after four seasons and a 125-131-34 record (4-5 in the playoffs). The Coyotes finished in 5th place in the West Division (24-26-6 with 54 points) for the 2020-2021 campaign. Tocchet became the fourth NHL head coach to be fired this season after John Tortorella (Blue Jackets), Claude Julien (Canadiens), and Ralph Kruger (Sabres).
Rick Tocchet’s Career with Arizona
Rick Tocchet led the Coyotes to one playoff appearance in 2020, which was their first such appearance since 2012. However, despite having a talented roster like Phil Kessel and Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Arizona was unable to build off its success from the previous season.
Before coming to Glendale in 2017, he was an assistant coach for the Pittsburgh Penguins (2014-2017). He won back-to-back Stanley Cup titles in 2016 (vs. Sharks) and 2017 (vs. Predators). Tocchet also served as the head coach for the Tampa Bay Lightning from 2008 until 2010.
