The University of Southern California (USC) Trojans are one of the most popular college teams in America. In program history, they have won ten national championships (with the recent one in 2003). Also, the USC squad has won three Pac-12 Conference titles outright since the 21st century: 2003, 2008 & 2017. Another thing to point out is that Southern California has won six Heisman Trophy winners: RB Marcus Allen, RB O.J. Simpson, RB Mike Garrett, RB Charles White, QB Matt Leinart, and QB Carson Palmer. Randy Johnson (Baseball)

  • Profile: Starting Pitcher for the Seattle Mariners & Arizona Diamondbacks (MLB: 1988-2009)
  • Connection: The Hall of Fame star played college baseball for three seasons for the USC Trojans (1983-1985). In fact, the “Big Unit” led the Trojans to one NCAA Tournament appearance in 1984. Since his college career ended, Johnson won a World Series championship with Arizona (2001) and guided Seattle to the American League Championship Series (1995). 

Aaron Boone (Baseball)

  • Profile: Manager for New York Yankees (2018-Present) and Infielder for Reds & Yankees (MLB: 1997-2009)
  • Connection: The Bronx Bombers skipper spent three seasons with the Trojans baseball program (1992-1994). For his tenure, the former infielder was able to lead USC to two NCAA Tournament appearances in 1993 and 1994. Boone was known for hitting the game-winning home run for the Yankees in Game 7 of the 2003 American League Championship Series vs. Boston Red Sox. 

Mark McGwire (Baseball)

  • Profile: Infielder who Played for Oakland Athletics & St. Louis Cardinals (MLB: 1986-2001)
  • Connection: He played college baseball for the Los Angeles-based university during the early 1980’s. Along with teammate Randy Johnson, McGwire guided the Trojans squad to the 1984 NCAA Tournament appearance. The slugger had a home run battle with Chicago Cubs star Sammy Sosa (1998) and won a World Series with Oakland (1989). 

Justin Turner (Baseball)

  • Profile: Third Baseman for Baltimore Orioles, New York Mets & Los Angeles Dodgers (MLB: 2009-Present)
  • Connection: The 2020 World Series champion is a die-hard Trojans fan and would root for them during the fall season. Despite the fact that he actually played college ball at California State (Fullerton), he is still a part of the Fight On community. Turner even wore an entire USC Trojans football uniform before a Dodgers road game in 2019.

Will Ferrell (Comedic Actor)

  • Connection: The California origin went to a couple Trojans games and met with then-wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster during the 2010’s.   • Connection: The Long Beach native showed up to the Trojans’ football practices and greeted players in the process. He also attended games on the sideline at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum and conducted the marching band one time. Even though Snoop Dogg never went to USC, he legendary rapper made his presence known in both music and in college football. 

Tom Sellick (Actor)

  • Profile: Television Actor Mainly Known for “Magnum P.I.” and “Blue Bloods.”
  • Connection: Believe it or not, Sellick played college basketball for the Trojans during the 1960’s. Following his basketball career, he decided to focus on acting as his full-time career. During an episode of “Magnum P.I.,” Sellick wore a vintage USC hat with team colors of red and gold. 

Spike Lee (Director)

  • Profile: Film Director/Actor who Made “Kobe Doin’ Work,” “Capital One® College Basketball Commercials,” and “Do the Right Thing.”
  • Connection: Lee attended many Trojans events over the years and even hung out with former Head Coach Clay Helton. Even though the director actually graduated from Morehouse College (Atlanta), he shows support for the men in red and gold since he’s part of the Hollywood fame. Lee even got to meet former running back Reggie Bush, whose Heisman Trophy was vacated as part of the NCAA investigation conducted in 2010. 

Saweetie (Rapper)

  • Profile: Hip-Hop Artist Recognized for “Best Friend,” “Tap In,” and “My Type.”
  • Connection: The Santa Clara origin graduated from University of Southern California with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication. Since her graduation, Saweetie made multiple appearances at Trojans contests at L.A. Memorial Coliseum. In fact, the rapper even got to meet the USC cheerleaders and some fans while wearing a Roman Trojan hat

George Lucas (Film Creator)

  • Profile: Creator/Director who was Responsible for “Star Wars™,” “American Graffiti,” and “Indiana Jones™.”
  • Connection: Lucas is a notable alumni from University of Southern California. In 2004, the director made a public appearance at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena (USC vs. Michigan). During the 1970’s filming of “American Graffiti,” Lucas was seen wearing a USC Trojans coat while interacting with actor Ron Howard.
