Also, the Death Valley squad have played in the National Championship Game four times since the new edition’s debut in 2015. Another thing to point out is that Clemson has won seven Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) titles since 2011. Horace Grant (Basketball)

  • Profile: NBA Player for Chicago Bulls, Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Lakers & Seattle SuperSonics (1987-2004)
  • Connection: The 4-Time NBA Champion played all four seasons with the Clemson Tigers basketball squad in the 1980’s. Grant led the Death Valley program to one NCAA Tournament and two NIT Tournament appearances. He eventually became the 10th overall pick by the Bulls in the 1987 draft. 

Brad Miller (Baseball)

  • Profile: Infielder for Seattle Mariners (2013-2015) & Tampa Bay Rays (2016-2018)
  • Connection: The journeyman player spent three seasons on the Clemson baseball team (2009-2011). In fact, Miller guided the Tigers to the 2010 College World Series appearance. In addition, the Death Valley squad won the Regional Championships in 2009 and 2010. 

Tim Teufel (Baseball)

  • Profile: Mets Infielder (1986-1991) and 3rd Base Coach (2012-2016)
  • Connection: The 1986 World Series champion played college baseball for the Tigers for at least one season. Teufel led Clemson to the 1980 College World Series and won the ACC Conference Tournament earlier that season. He also has managerial experience with the Savannah Sand Gnats (2007), Port St. Lucie Mets (2008-2009), Binghamton Mets (2010), and Buffalo Bisons (2011).

Robert Duvall (Actor)

  • Connection: Brice had a brief playing career for the Clemson football team. However, he chose to pursue a career in music following an arm injury. In 2014, Brice and his family attended a Clemson game and had an RV-party in Memorial Stadium’s parking lot

Nikki Haley (Former Governor of South Carolina)

  • Connection: She is a Clemson University graduate and she was from Bamburg (which is about a 3.0-hour drive from the college).
